Stanley is a boy who is wrongly accused of stealing a pair of shoes, and he is sent to a rehabilitation center in the Texas desert as his punishment. He meets six other boys at Camp Green Lake –Squid, X-Ray, Magnet, Armpit, Zigzag and Zero—and they befriend him. They give him the nickname of “Caveman” because he is overweight. Every day the boys are sent out into the dried-up lake by Mr. Sir, Mr. Pendanski and the Warden to dig holes. They dig all day long by themselves, and their holes are about ten feet away from each other. They are aware that they are digging for something but they do not know what it is. If a boy finds something interesting to the Warden, that boy gets the rest of the day off and an extra-long shower. One day, Stanley finds a gold tube about the size of a pen cap. On the cap are the initials “K.B.” Stanley later remembers a story about how his great-grandfather was robbed by a famous outlaw named “Kissin’ Kate Barlow,” and he comes to realize that the boys are digging for his relative’s treasure.
I would rate this book 4.5 out of 5 stars. There was a lot of action and suspense, particularly in the middle and the end. I found it to be a little slow at the beginning which is why I gave it a 4.5 instead of a 5.

ReplyDeleteThe book Holes about a boy named Stanley. Stanley is sent to camp green lake for stealing a pair of shoes that were owned by a famous baseball player. The only thing is he didn't steal anything. At Camp Green Lake their is no lake there is only a barren wasteland where a lake use to be. In camp green lake you have to dig one hole a day that hole has to be exactly five feet deep and five feet wide. this is supposed to build character .
When Stanley gets to camp green lake he is assigned to group D and he digs his first hole, it's extremely hard for him. His second hole is even and harder his hands are covered in blisters. Around this time Stanley starts to think that they are not just digging to improve their character, they are digging to find something and Stanley thinks he knows where that something is Stanley keeps on digging his holes. And around that time he makes a friend out of one of the campers the other campers call him zero. But one day zero runs away from camp witch is the only watercourse with in 100 miles. Stanley also runs away from camp to find zero and finds him they return to camp planing to try find the something that they had been looking for. they find it just before morning but the camp director (who had ben using the kids to try and find the treasure) found them in a hole and to add to their bad luck yellow spotted lizards that are deadly poisonous start to climb into their hole. Then miraculously the lawyer that was defending Stanley's case showed up. They got Stanley out of the hole along with the briefcase that was thought to contain the treasure. Zero and Stanley went home with the lawyer but were disappointed to find that the briefcase didn't hold the treasure but what it did hold was worth about a million dollars. After that Stanley and Zero lead close to normal lives.
